The Very Lucky Few --- Bob Clevenger ©2006
My first song -- well, first that still survives, anyway.
Oh I [A]met her
there in a [D]dingy bar,
She was [A]singin
for her [E]pay.
When her [A]set was
done we [D]talked a while
‘Bout our [A]hopes
for a [E]future [A]day.
And the [D]roads
to see are [A]many
And the paths to reach them, [E]too.
Every [A]now
and then they [D]meet again
For the [A]very
[E]lucky [A]few.
Well I [A]joined her
band and went [D]on the road,
Singin’ [A]nights
and travelin’ [E]days.
It was [A]hard to
earn a [D]living wage
So we [A]went out [E]separate
[A]ways.
And the [D]towns
to see are [A]many
And the paths to reach them, [E]too.
Every [A]now
and then they [D]meet again
For the [A]very
[E]lucky [A]few.
Now I [A]signed up
on a [D]freighter,
Per- [A]haps to
forget [E]her.
But [A]every new
port [D]that I’ve seen,
I re- [A]member [E]as
a [A]blur.
And the [D]lands
to see are [A]many
And the paths to reach them, [E]too.
Every [A]now
and then they [D]meet again
For the [A]very
[E]lucky [A]few.
Well I [A]got on
board a [D]singleship,
My [A]mind must be
quite [E]lame,
For I’m [A]searching
all the [D]universe
To re- [A]kindle [E]an
old [A]flame.
And the [D]memories
are [A]many
And the paths to reach them, [E]too.
Every [A]now
and then they [D]meet again
For the [A]very
[E]lucky [A]few.
Yes, I’ve [A]come
now to the [D]meeting place,
The [A]one I know so
[E]well,
And I [A]see her
waiting [D]there for me
At the [A]old Mars-[E]port
Ho-[A]tel.
And the [D]worlds
I’ve seen are [A]many
And the paths to reach them, [E]too.
Every [A]now
and then they [D]meet again
For the [A]very
[E]lucky [A]few.
